Spring has sprung and we can finally enjoy outdoor activities again. While it’s not quite warm enough to go swimming, we can enjoy the sun and the natural beauty of West Virginia with hiking. Enjoy nature and exercise at the same time

  1. Deegan & Hinkle Lakes Park. Located on Hinkle Lake Road in Bridgeport, this park is great for hiking, fishing, and biking. While you’re here you’ll get to enjoy Deegan Lake, local wildlife, and beautiful greenery. The trail here is perfect for all levels and ages.
  2. Blackwater Canyon Trail. This 10.5-mile trail used to be a route for hauling coal and lumber in 1888. Follow along the Blackwater River and enjoy mountain scenery on both sides of you. You’ll find many historical sites on this trail so make sure you bring your history buff friends with you.
  3. Allegheny Highlands Trail. If you enjoy a long hike, this 26-mile trail is the perfect fit. This gravel trail will follow the West Virginia Central and Pittsburgh Railway through the countryside and mountainous region of West Virginia. You can hike, bike, and go horseback riding on this trail.
  4. Deckers Creek Trail. Follow along the Monongahela River and enjoy a rural landscape with this 19.5-mile trail. When you hike this trail you will come across several outdoors enthusiasts including kayakers, bikers, runners, and skaters. If you’re also a rock climber, you’ll find many opportunities for climbing.
